Best time to visit the UAE sets out practical travel information for the United Arab Emirates: how the country is connected, what to expect seasonally, and what visitors and residents need to arrange beforehand.
Getting there and around
The UAE is served by major international airports in Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Sharjah, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah, and by a dense road network linking the seven emirates — most journeys between neighbouring emirates take under two hours. Public buses, taxis, ride-hailing services and, in Dubai and Abu Dhabi, metro and tram systems cover urban travel. The country drives on the right; a valid licence plus an International Driving Permit is the usual requirement for visitors.
Practical points
The climate is arid: expect very high summer temperatures from June to September, comfortable conditions from November to March, and occasional heavy rain in winter. Weekends officially run from Friday afternoon, and Friday prayers shape opening hours. Alcohol is served in licensed hotels and venues only; during Ramadan, eating and drinking in public during daylight hours is restricted.
Planning
Book accommodation well ahead for the peak winter season and for major events, check visa rules for your nationality before travel, and carry travel insurance that covers medical care. This encyclopedia states what is documented and does not recommend particular operators.
